Ai Yori Aoshi: Bluer Than Indigo

Synopsis: Kaoru Hanabishi, a college student, meets a damsel in distress( of sorts) in a kimono at the train station. She is looking for a house that happens to be in his neighborhood. He volunteers to show her the way but they end up at an abandoned lot. In order to help her find the "boy" she was looking for, she present Kaoru with a photograph. In this photo he identifies himself and his childhood friend Aoi Sakuraba. As it turns out she is his fiance and has come to Tokyo to marry him but rather than being a joyous occasion he is met with memories of his past. They decide to move into Aoi's summer home when things like love, girls, jealousy and drama begin to appear.

Characters:

Hanabishi Kaoru: Attends Meiritsu university and is a member of the photography club. His personality fits the good student type all the while still being average. He is the main protagonist of this anime and is the root of all the girls love interest. As a past member of the Hanabishi Clan, he harbors feeling of hate towards their cruel treatment of him and his mother, as his mother and father were never married and he was their illegitimate child. He thus decided to abandon his name and live on his own, forgetting his past and his family that is until he meets Aoi.

Sakuraba Aoi: Is seen as a "traditional" Japanese beauty because of her skills in cooking and house keeping. At a young age she and Kaoru were betrothed but since he left his Clan the marriage became nullified, not wanting to lose the love of her life she goes to find him. Her personality is shy and rather than thrive on her jealousy  she fights to keep it in under control around the many female tenants at her summer home, which she is the manager of.

Tina Foster: Tina is an American but spent most of her life in Japan. She also attends Meiritsu University and also is part of the photography club. She is a very promiscuous character (towards other females) loud and outspoken. She likes to drink and has a pet white ferret by the name of Uzume. Her background story and ending are both tragic. Not being able to fit in because of her ethnicity and upbringing she has a hard time "fitting in" and towards the end we find that although she truly loved Kaoru she was afraid to confess because of the fear of rejection.

Kagurazaki Miyabi: Being Aoi's caretaker and guardian, Miyabi is seen as a workaholic and stern woman but as her character develops you learn of her kindheartedness and her appreciation to Aoi and her family. She is the manager of the summer house and although she did not accept Kaoru st first, she has come to accept him because of his feelings for Aoi and Aoi's feelings for him.

Minazuki Taeko: Taeko is also a student at Meiritsu University and a new member of the photography club. She too, moves into the summer house and lives their as the housekeeper.She is a very clumsy girl but try her hardest at being a housekeeper (Warning: valuables were lost during this anime due to her character!). Big Shocker (A bit of Sarcasm), she too falls in love with Kaoru.

Miyuki Mayu: Also attends Meiritsu but not by choice. Like all the girls in this anime, Mayu also loves Kaoru. When she was 12, Kaoru cheered her up at a party and from then on she has harbored feelings for him. She tries her best at making Kaoru happy and takes a couple of lessons from Aoi. Her and Tina are total opposites but their relationship calls for some clashing arguments and moments that bring the "family" together.

Minazuki Chika: Is Taeko's cousin very tanned younger cousin. Chika comes to find out that Taeko likes Kaoru and therefore spends her time scheming and plotting how to get them to hook up. She comes to respect Karou, as an older brother, rather than fall in love with him.

Season 2: Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi

Synopsis: Two years have passed, Karou is now in grad school and the tenants are still as crazy as ever.

This anime is your standard "HAREM" story. In which a male is surrounded by a numerous amount of beautiful (inside and out) girls. The story is about love and family being able to overcome different background stories. A really nice family type anime despite some risque moments between Tina and the other female characters (I'll leave that up to your imagination)! ;)
